For the first time in roughly six years, Canadian death metal legends GORGUTS return from an extended hiatus and will perform a special set at Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest: Philly. In celebration of their reunion, the band will play a set exclusively of material from their classic albums 1991’s Considered Dead and 1998’s Obscura. According to GORGUTS guitarist/vocalist Luc Lemay, “a set of songs that haven’t been performed live in over 25 years.”

Evolving from a relatively straightforward death metal sound when formed in 1989 into an increasingly complex style of technical avant-garde death metal, having incorporated pianos and acoustic guitars into their songs. Over the course of the band’s discography, which includes five full-length albums, their music would increasingly use complex song structures, unconventional time signatures, unorthodox sounds, esoteric lyrical themes, and unprecedented dissonance.

While Lemay isn’t busily hand sculpting wooden signs, he has been writing for what may be a new GORGUTS album.
