BANE was started by guitarist Aaron Dalbec, and shortly joined later by, drummer Damon Bellorado, as a side project of their main project, Converge, in 1994 under the name Gateway. The following year the band name was changed to BANE and Aaron Bedard was asked to handle vocals prior to the group recording a 5-track demo. After a series of EPs, the band would release their debut full-length, It All Comes Down to This, in 1999 via Equal Vision Records, the first of four albums with the label. They would release their fourth and final full-length album, Don’t Wait Up, in May 2014, nearly twenty years after their first release. The last shows would conclude in 2016.

BANE reunited for a surprise appearance at a benefit show on July 2, 2021, in tribute to former band member (also of Reach the Sky) Brendan “Stu” Maguire, who died after a two-year fight with pancreatic cancer on June 27, 2021. Then, in the very early morning in February 2023, BANE announced a reunion concert at Roadrunner in Boston, MA. Due to all 3,000 tickets selling out within a half-hour, they added a second show with The Suicide File, Stick To Your Guns, Killing Time, Bracewar, and Colin Of Arabia the next day. The large venue setup a bump-out stage to allow for a slightly more intimate and barricade-less setting allowing for nonstop stage antics.
