Half of the mighty CAVE IN, Adam McGrath & Stephen Brodsky, played an intimate acoustic set to about 75  people, hosted by infamous rock’n’roll brewery Bone Up. While tuning, Stephen informed us that the date that night had a bit more significance than just being the date of this performance, it was also Caleb Scofield‘s birthday – he would have been 45 years old.

The duo’s set consisted of new and old CAVE IN songs, some written by Caleb, and a cover of Failure‘s “Magnified,” which may be familiar if you picked up their Creative Eclipses EP (1999 – Hydra Head Records). The band just released their seventh studio album, Heavy Pendulum last year (2022 – Relapse Records), and would play “Reckoning” and “Blinded by a Blaze” off it as well as throwing in “All Illusion” and “Shake my Blood” from Final Transmission (2019 – Relapse Records).

Throwbacks included renditions of “New Moon” from Jupiter (2000 – Hydra Head Records), “The Calypso,” “Dark Driving,” and “Everest” from Tides of Tomorrow (2002 – Hydra Head Records), and “Anchor” and “Youth Overrided” from Antenna (2003 – RCA / Hydra Head Records).

The evening of intimate performances included Marquis Lavoie (Actor Observer), Jim Healey (Blood Lightning), Hall Monitor, and T. Bloodhound, with Adam McGrath & Stephen Brodsky – live at Bone Up Brewing in Everett, MA on October 6, 2023. Photographs by @bananamasher.
