NRP Interview: Blake Harrison of PIG DESTROYER

We shot some questions off to the PIG DESTROYER camp to see what’s happening with their new album and what they are planning.  Blake Harrison took the time to get back to us.

Nefarious Realm: It’s been roughly 5 years since the last Pig Destroyer album, what can you tell us about the new effort?

Blake Harrison: It’s fierce, it’s short, it’s fast

Nefarious Realm: I know people are wondering, why so long in between albums?

Blake Harrison: Well, we built a studio so we could record our own stuff, and then we parted ways with our previous drummer and got Adam Jarvis and worked him into the fold, He’s great and we couldn’t ask for a better drummer.

Nefarious Realm: Tell us about the making of this yet untitled collection of noise, how did the whole recording process go?

Blake Harrison
: Scott writes the material and then we kind of fine tune it, it’s pretty simple when you have riffs like that, I’m super proud of what Scott has written.

Nefarious Realm: How did you guys hook up with now permanent drummer, Adam Jarvis?

Blake Harrison
: I’ve known Adam for years, and so has the rest of the band, we were working with Dave Witte for a little bit and there were some scheduling issues, so we asked Adam, and he came in and got right to work. That guy is an amazing talent and a super hard worker.

Nefarious Realm: Past albums have featured art from John Baizley, Paul Booth, etc., who are you looking at to design the new album?

Blake Harrison
: Chris Taylor who did the Terrifyer and Painter Of Dead Girls covers, this should be a little different looking cover.

Nefarious Realm: When the times comes for it to be released, what are your thoughts knowing that many people will be illegally downloading it?

Blake Harrison
: No, not really, we do this band for us, don’t get me wrong, we’re thrilled that people love it, but we’d rather have people have it. We don’t live off of the band.

Nefarious Realm: Usually with a new album comes touring.  A couple European Festivals have been announced, but are any full tours being planned?

Blake Harrison
: Full tours? No, probably not, we don’t really do that, but definitely look for us doing strategic stabs of weekend shows and hitting up some places we haven’t been before. But we currently have the European fests, Japan, Calgary and some UK dates planned.

Nefarious Realm: Any bands that you would personally love to tour with?

Blake Harrison
: Yes, we’re all pretty into a UK band called Blacklisters, there are of course TONS of bands we’d love to play with, but that’s a pretty long list.

Nefarious Realm: When out on the road, what’s the beer or drink of choice while traveling or at the venue?

Blake Harrison
: We’re all really into beer, Guinness, Jack Daniels, vodka…

Nefarious Realm: When you’re not doing anything band related, how do you keep yourself busy?

Blake Harrison
: We all have day jobs and Adam of course has Misery Index. Scott has his family and ANb. We’re pretty busy people in general.

Nefarious Realm: What are some bands that you have been listening to lately?

Blake Harrison
: Afternoon Gentlemen, Cloud Rat, Whores, Locrian, Blacklisters, Pizza Hi Five, Ladder Devils

Nefarious Realm: Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions!
