UNKIND Post In-Studio Episode

Finnish hardcore heroes UNKIND have posted an in-studio episode chronicling the making of their forthcoming album Pelon Juuret. Watch the episode after the jump.

The album was recorded with producer Kari Nieminen at Noisecamp Studios in Turku, Finland at the end of 2012 and will be released on CD/LP/Digital via Relapse Records on July 9th in North America, July 8th in the UK / World, and July 5th in Germany, Benelux and Finland. Pelon Juuret continues in the direction of the group’s previous work, offering up a furious fusion of d-beat hardcore crossed with a highly creative touch of atmospherics —as if Mogwai made a record of Tragedy covers or From Ashes Rise were influenced by Explosions In The Sky.

Additionally, the band has been confirmed for a series of Finnish dates including LPRHC and Back 2 School Fest. A complete listing is available below with more shows to be announced shortly.

ALPHA & OMEGA Debut New Song

Check out the new track “Sink“, which appears on the eponymous 7inch release as well as ALPHA & OMEGA‘s forthcoming full-length No Rest, No Peace, now from Alternative Press.

Sink” is the first new ALPHA & OMEGA song to surface, in anticipation of the Sink 7inch (coming 6/18) and the band’s Bridge 9 debut full-length, No Rest, No Peace, which will hit stores on July 23rd. Pre-orders for the Sink EP were posted today and can be found in the B9Store.

ALPHA & OMEGA‘s second full-length is a juggernaut of an album, drawing from influences of hardcore mainstays such as Cro Mags and Integrity as well as crossover and metal like Crowbar and Metallica. Vocalist Luis Hernandez said:

“Every lyric, every riff is real – this album truly reflects Alpha & Omega as a whole.”

No Rest, No Peace is also the first album the band has written together; each song featuring input from every member. And with Chad Gilbert producing and Kyle Black recording, this record sounds tougher while more accessible than anything ALPHA & OMEGA has done thus far. Hernandez said:

“NRNP is the perfect mix of our first release The Devils Bed and our last LP, Life Swallower. We took all the things we liked about our past two records and made them stronger. The fast parts are faster, the heavy parts are heavier and the choruses are catchier. We wanted to write a record that sticks with you and I feel that we accomplished that.”

ALPHA & OMEGA upcoming dates:

SEPTORY to release split CD with SADISTIK FOREST via Horror Pain Gore Death

Horror Pain Gore Death Productions brings together two of the sickest Death Metal bands in the world for a killer split! SEPTORY are the fastest rising Death Metal band in Russia at the moment. Featuring members of cult Death Metal act Bestial Deform and Black Metal horde Khashm, their brand of traditional yet innovative Death Metal is highly recommended for fans of Deicide, Vader and early Cannibal Corpse. After releasing the Rotting Humanity EP in 2006, SEPTORY put out their crushing debut World War Chaos in 2008, followed by the destructive Seductive Art Profane in 2011. Their strong HPGD debut features a deadly collection of new anthems of evil, old school Death Metal and includes a cover of Bestial Deform‘s “Three Days Since Dead“. An absolutely crushing offering!

Finland’s SADISTIK FOREST is Death Metal four piece from Oulu and includes Markus Makkonen of Hooded Menace on vocals/bass. The band has often been compared to such names as Bolt Thrower, Morbid Angel, Terrorizer, Vader, Napalm Death, Sodom and early Sepultura. Relentless, punishing and unforgiving, their aural assault is a concoction of early 90′s Death Metal, Grindcore and 80′s Thrash. After releasing their self-titled debut in 2010, SF released the brutal Death, Doom, Radiation in 2012. This recording features three brand new originals and a cover version of the Seth Putnam‘s/Thor‘s collaboration ”Throwing Cars at People (On Coke With Thor)“.

This is the 4th entry in the Price Slasher series that delivers high quality sickness at the lowest price possible. Prepare to headbang! You can pre-order your copy for only $8 including shipping here. The split will be released on June 25th.

Hyrda Head Is Having A Yard Sale!

The time has come for Hydra Head to shut down our LA HQ. It’s been a long time coming, but that doesn’t make the process any less of a heart breaker. In order to ease their pain a bit, we’re opening our doors to the public for the first and last time on Saturday May 25th as we celebrate our disintegration with a Hydra Head Super-Power-Yard-Sale. James O’Mara and Aaron Turner will be on hand to help serve you, and if you’re nice, give you treats (sadly Sugar Bear aka Andrew Cox will be spending his last official paycheck in Mexico and won’t be able to join us). We’ll have tables set up with goodies in the office for your perusal, and snacks and refreshments available at random intervals. There will be some give away surprises to random customers and a free test pressing for the first five arrivals.

Some of what we’ll have on had that day will include (but is not limited to) the following: $1 CDs, $5 t-shirts, office furniture (anyone need a desk? – we’ll be giving away some of our office stuff as well), discounted copies of recent vinyl titles, Hydra Head Super-Rarities (original pressings of Cave In “Beyond Hypothermia” LP, Converge/Agoraphobic Nosebleed LP, Discordance Axis “Inalienable Dreamless” LP, Cave In “Jupiter” LP, Botch “We Are the Romans” 2xLP, Neurosis “Sovereign” LP, Pelican “The Fire in Our Throats…” 2xLP, etc), AND some other related treasures (ISIS test pressings and box sets, screen printed tour posters, random black metal t-shirts, and whatever other gems we can dig up). Our aim is to get rid of as much as is possible in our office, so if you see something you like hanging on a wall or sitting on a desk make us an offer and see what happens!

Google Unveils Streaming Music Subscription Service

Google unveiled Google Play Music All Access at their annual I/O developers’ conference in San Francisco. This is a monthly music subscription service with access to millions of songs that allows users to listen to unlimited songs for $9.99 a month, challenging smaller companies like Pandora and Spotify in the market for streaming music.

Where All Access may stand apart from other, similar services is in its ability to find music that is unfamilar to the listener. All Access “blends” users’ music libraries with Google‘s extensive databank, and it harnesses Google‘s wide user data to offer personal suggestions and predict direct hits based on past history, social circles and additional collected information.

Create a new station based on any artist, album or song. Explore the full list of songs in your station, skip ahead, see what’s next, re-order the songs any way you like and create stations using newly discovered songs.

The music service features millions of tracks from Universal Music, Sony Entertainment Group and Warner Music Group, as well as from thousands of independent labels, according to a Google spokeswoman.

DEATH RAY VISION Debut EP “Get Lost Or Get Dead” Re-Release Out Today; Complete Recording of New LP

Current members of Killswitch Engage and Shadows Fall and ex members of Overcast, Seemless, and Cannae have combined forces in the project DEATH RAY VISION. These veterans of the Boston metal scene play a raw brand of metallic hardcore that recaptures the energy of their old school hardcore roots infused with all they have learned and experienced as musicians over the past decade. The songs are short blasts of energy and intensity built on thrash metal rhythms and chugging guitar riffs.

The debut 5 song EP Get Lost Or Get Dead is available today on Bullet Tooth in 7″ Vinyl, Digipack CD, and digital download formats, grab it here. The 7″ is limited to 400 purple, 400 yellow, and 200 yellow/purple swirl (only available through the bundle).

After breaking their silence onstage at local Boston hardcore shows, DEATH RAY VISION entered Mad Oak Studio in MA with producer Benny Grotto to record their debut EP Get Lost Or Get Dead.  The recording, which the band self released, captured the raw energy and emotion of the band combined with a modern production, seamlessly bridging the gap between the past and future.  The sessions were the creative spark that inspired the band to continue writing and see how far they could push their sound. According to vocalist Brian Fair:

“When Mike and I first met, we went to see Leeway and Breakdown play in Boston.  My love for raw, metallic hardcore began that day and the energy and insanity in that club is something that has stayed with me forever.”

With their new label partnership in place, DEATH RAY VISION have recently completed tracking for the new LP with producer Dean Baltulonis (Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front) which will be released in the summer of 2013. Explains Fair

“These new songs have pushed our sound to a new level and we can’t wait to unleash them on the world!”

DEAFHEAVEN Announces US Headline Tour w/ MARRIAGES

San Francisco’s DEAFHEAVEN are gearing up for the release of their highly anticipated second full-length album, Sunbather, on June 11th through Deathwish Inc.  The band returns from a European tour this week, and will play a few West Coast shows with BORIS later this month before they gear up for a full U.S. run in June and July with MARRIAGES in tow.

Sunbather, recorded and engineered by Jack Shirley (Funeral Diner, Comadre) and designed by Nick Steinhardt (Touche Amore), deals with the profound sadness found in the quest for one’s personal perfection, serving as an artistic lucid dream of warmth despite the stinging pain of life’s cruel idealism.  With opener “Dream House“, George Clarke‘s tortured vocals familiarly intertwine with Kerry McCoy‘s hypnotic guitar work before crashing into a wash of post-everything melody. This leads to the moving instrumental “Irresistible“, a track that carries a twisted indie-like sensibility buried beneath glittery layers of guitar and piano. However, it is in the title track and beyond where the maturation and growth of DEAFHEAVEN brightly shines. On Sunbather, they explore sonic peaks and valleys created by superb percussionist Daniel Tracy (new to the band for this recording). Daniel‘s inclusion brings new dynamics to light as an urgent pulse to the swirling musical chaos, pushing bleak epic “Vertigo” and the dark emotional closer “The Pecan Tree” to new, awe-inducing heights. Without question Sunbather is DEAFHEAVEN at the peak of their creative strength and vision of their young existence; a 7-song, masterfully crafted work of art that will be renowned for years to come.

Sunbather track listing:
1. Dream House
2. Irresistible
3. Sunbather
4. Please Remember
5. Vertigo
6. Windows
7. The Pecan Tree

BATTLECROSS Discuss Recording at Audiohammer Studios

Detroit, MI’s BATTLECROSS has completed work on their second album for Metal Blade Records. The title, track-listing, as well as music and behind the scenes studio videos are being readied for public consumption. Until then, BATTLECROSS has shared a few photos from their time at Audiohammer Studios, as well as some thoughts on the recording process with famed producer Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, Trivium, Whitechapel, DevilDriver).

Since its inception in the early 2000′s, Audiohammer Studios has grown to become one of the go-to studios for metal acts worldwide. The facilities and talent behind the production turned out to be the perfect fit for BATTLECROSS. Guitarist Hiran Deraniyagala explains:

“I was extremely excited about recording our next album but I didn’t know what to expect coming into Audiohammer. There was a lot of pressure on us, but we delivered! Our efforts would not have produced the same results without the masterminds of Mark and Eyal. I haven’t stopped listening to it and I can’t wait for the world to hear it!”

Guitarist Tony Asta adds:

“We really pushed ourselves on the new album. Working with Mark and Eyal at Audiohammer was learning experience for me, especially while honing my lead guitar parts. The album came out light years ahead of my expectations and I’m proud to say I had a part in it. The recording process was different than I was used to but I really like their approach. The laid back atmosphere, mixed with the deliver or be delivered expectations, really inspired me to do my best.”

On the low end, over-the-top bass guitar phenom, Don Slater, offers up his thoughts on the process:

“What makes recording an album almost seem effortless is the environment and professionalism you are working with; Eyal Levi and Mark Lewis at Audiohammer are prime examples of this in top-notch form. As laid back as their approach is to their craft, it enables unbroken focus to the project by not fogging things up with unwanted stress. I simply couldn’t have asked for a better team of gentlemen to work with, and the almost random cameos by Jason Suecof were a treat as well. These guys know exactly what they are doing, and it shows in their work, namely our upcoming release. Also, knowing the caliber of musicians they’ve worked with drove me to do the very best I could for this album, inspiring me to think outside the typical bass box. Our experience with Audiohammer not only pushed us to make the best damned album possible, but also made a better musician of myself. I can’t thank them enough.”
